Configuring Retailer Creation using Device Camera Barcode Scanning

Inzant supports the creation of Retailers directly from a tradeshow 2D barcode – which should contain enough information to create the customer. To configure this feature you’ll need to follow the below instructions. To use the iPad device camera for barcode scanning you first need to ensure that you’ve configured the default barcode scanning method to be “Device Camera”. Navigate to the Sync Status screen within the Inzant Sales application, and tap the Setup Barcode Scanner button.

In the newly raised Barcode Scanner Settings popup window, tap the Device Camera tab. This will present you with the configuration options for the Retailer field mappings.

To start mapping fields you’ll need an example tag from the show you are attending. With this in hand, tap the Scan icon in the top left of the popup window.

Centre the Show Attendee 2D barcode in the scanning window that pops up, and let the device read the scan. This should only take a second or two. 

Top Tip: Make sure your device case isn’t covering the camera.

Field Mappings

Once scanned you will be returned to the same Barcode Scanner Settings popup window. The section labelled Retailer Field mappings – 2D Scanners will have numerous “Field No. #” sections in a vertically scrolling zone. 

Next to the “Field No. #” in each section will be the data from the tag you scanned. All you need to do is read this information and use the below field options section to select the right field.

In the below example, in “Field No. 3” the barcode had “Nurk Inc” stored. We’ve mapped this to the “Company Name” field.

In “Field No. 4” the barcode had “21 Nurk St”, and we’ve mapped this to “Street Address”. Scroll down through the entire list and ensure that all mappings are configured.

These field mappings are important as they will assist you with automatically mapping customer show tag information onto a new customer when scanned. It’s important to note that these can vary between tradeshows and that you should always reconfigure your mappings before the start of a new tradeshow.

Use in Search

You also have the option of Use in Search for all fields. When you scan a customer’s barcode the iPad will by default check to see if they exist already first in your system, and if so then it will display them. If not, then it will prompt you to create a new customer with the configured field mappings.

You have the option of deciding which fields to use as part of the search. Some common options would be Company Name, Firstname or Surname and Suburb.

Closing the Window

Once Complete, tap the SAVE button in the bottom right of the popup window.

If you want to clear all current configuration, tap the “Clear” button then “Confirm” in the following warning box.

If you simply wanted to review the configuration and want to close the window without changing it, tap the “Cancel” option.

Now you’ve setup your Retailer mappings you can navigate to the Retailer list screen, and in the top right of screen you’ll have the option to raise the barcode scanning window. Once open you’ll need to centre the customers show tag in the scanning window and let the device read the barcode.

Upon successful scanning the device will either show a search results screen, or prompt you to create a new customer if no match was found. You can tweak the suggested field mappings before saving the new customer and starting an order.
