Creating a Favicon for your website

Creating a Favicon for your website

A favicon is a small icon/image that gets associated with your website. Most notably its shown in the browser tab in most browsers & next to the name of any bookmarks. Its main function is to provide further branding ability for websites, so it enables your website to be more recognisable in a list of bookmarks, and a bit more personalised when the user is looking through their open tabs.

Typically you'd make your favicon some variant of your logo. A good example is the google favicon, which is the "G" component of their logo.

To make a favicon for Inzant Sales, you will need to create a PNG image that is around 32 pixels x 32 pixels. This is pretty small, so if you've got a logo that isn't naturally a circle or square then you might consider using only part of the logo that does nicely fit into a square, and is still easily recognisable when its very small. Also you might want to think about the background colour - generally white, light grey or an invisible background are the best options.

There are numerous online favicon generator tools, however as your logo may need to be cropped and modified to suit it could be just as easy to do it yourself in one of the Adobe tools (not free), Paint (comes free with windows) or Paint.Net (free download).

Once you have the image you want, save the file name as "favicon". Now you can simply upload this file into the Inzant Sales CMS file library (steps below), and you're all done.

Login to the CMS, and open the "File Library" page.

Click the "ADD" button to upload the new file.

Click the "Choose File" button

Use the file selector to open the new favicon image

Click the "Save" button in the top right corner of the screen.

To test if the favicon has worked return to your website home screen and tap F5 to reload the screen. If it doesn't display in the browser tab immediately, hold Ctrl + F5 and wait for the page to refresh.
