What do the security roles actually mean?

What do the security roles actually mean?

The security roles in the CMS limit what options the user has access to. We've broken down the list of user permission levels below so you can see what menu option will be visible for each permission level.

For each level there are three options;
  1. "None" - which provides no access to any of the modules in that permission level.
  2. "Read" - which provides visibility to the modules in that permission level, but not the ability to edit anything.
  3. "Write" - which provides visibility to the modules in that permission level, and the ability to edit.
The permission levels are;

Configuration Management
  • Website Settings
  • Ordering
  • Freight

Administrator
  • Manage Users
  • Merchant Settings

You can pick and choose which permissions level you provide - for instance you can provide someone who simply needs to add blog articles or manage locked carts with "Content Management" write access. Should that person also need to manage freight rules, where forms are emailed to and general shop related settings then you could also provide them with "Configuration Management" - without needing to provide them "Structure Management" or "Administrator" permission.
